Introduction:


 A Word processor is a software program capable of creating, storing, printing typed documents. Today the word processor is one of the most frequently used software programme ON A COMPUTER, WITH MICROSOFT word being the most popular word processor.
A word processor should not be confused with a text editor, such as Notepad, that only allows editing, creating text.

Meaning of word processor:



A word processor is an electronic device or computer software application, that Performs the task of composing, editing, formatting and printing of documents.

The word processor was a stand Alone office machine in the 1960 s , combining the keyboard text entry And printing functions of an electric device type writers , with a recording unit either tape or floppy disk with a  simple dedicated computer processor for the editing of text. Although features and designs varied among manufactures and models, and new features were added as technology advanced, word processors typically featured a monochrome display and ability to save documents on memory cards or diskettes. Date models introduced innovation such as spell checking programs and improve formatting option.


As the versatile combination of personal computers and printers became commonplace, and computer software applications for word processor become popular, most bussines machine companies stopped manufacturing dedicated word processor machines.

Word processing was one of the earliest applications for the personal computer in office productivity and was the most widely used application on personal computer until the world wide web rose to prominence in the mid-1990s.

Unlike a basic plaintext editor a word processor offers dozens of additional features that can give your documents or other text a more professional appearance.
